Secondo BFMTV, l'attentatore, un uomo di 33 anni era stato già segnalato come potenzialmente pericoloso per la sicurezza nazionale. Secondo le fonti citate dall’emittente nella sua macchina sono stati trovati un fucile di assalto di Kalashnikov, ma anche pistole e munizioni. Franceinfo riferisce invece che a bordo del veicolo sarebbe stata rinvenuta anche una bombola di gas.
